Friday, 01 May 2009 05:07

Eicca Toppinen is a Finnish cellist, songwriter, producer, arranger, and hobbiest drummer. Toppinen plays cello and composes in the Finnish cello metal band Apocalyptica.

Let's take a look at some of the gear that Eicca has been seen using in his Cello rig. We don't have many cello rigs on the site, so this will be a neat addition.

Bows

There are many links through that forum that provide the information I'm about to relay.

"The signal chain starts with two pickups, a Barcus-Berry and a Schertler. They both have their own preamp (BB 3000A and StatPre). The signals are then mixed in a custom built mixer and sent to the wireless unit (Sennheiser). These are all attached to their cellos. Eicca only uses the BB part though (no Schertler). They all have Line6 Bass Pods and Paavo has a Vox Tonelab LE and they are controlled by Tech21 Midi Mouses. Before the Pods there are some pedals, but the combinations are a bit different. They have EBS pedals (Multidrive and OctaBass) and a MXR 10-band eq. The wah for Enter Sandman is from the Pod. This is how it's been for the Worlds Collide tour, but there might be some changes in the future. "

Also, they've moved to using Peavey 6505+ amplifiers as this is alluded to on the peavey site. www.peavey.com/.../index.cfm

They have also started using G-Labs "GSC-3, MGC-6, M3S, PB-1, AUX Bank Up/Down with midi in" for songs that the cello basically just needs to be mic'd and clean. www.glab.com.pl/artists_en
