Mick has two new signature models this year, based on the Ibanez Glaive model: www.ibanez.com/.../Series-mtm
I must say, the blood red finish looks more bada** on the Glaive than on the RG.

You forgot his B.C. Rich Warlocks with assorted paint jobs and during the sonisphere tour i think he's been testing a new shape for the ibanez x series.

you can throw in heavier strings than 52 easily into a guitar, just as long as it has a locking nut (on guitars that have a double locking tremelo) because the holes on those are actually pretty big, you can get extremely heavy strings in those (within reason of course).

Dude, I used to play with a 59 low C# string. And it fit just fine through the string post. And 52 really isn't that heavy for a guitar. The lowest I've ever gone was a 70 gauge in a low F#. Also depending on the scale length, heavier strings may or may not be necessary. I've seen some players use a 10 gauge for a high C# on a baritone and it would be tight as hell.

i use a 11-15-18-28-38-58 gauge ernie ball strings on my guitar. i used to use 11-15-18-30-40-62. you can even go higher then a 60 ive seen a 70 gauge for guitar.

0 #16 String GaugesJSIN 2009-01-29 20:09
Sorry about my bad spelling! A 62 is way up there man. My high string on my 4 sring bass is only a 50...so I just can't see putting more than a 52 on a 6 string guitar. Tones aren't necessarily all in the strings anyhow. You've got to consider strings, pups and amp settings as well as what type of amp and guitars he might use. Plus, recorded audio is always produced and souped up with effects that may enhance the tone. We all definatly know that he's using most of the gear listed...but the string gauges were a bit "fuzzy" to me.

I use ernie ball not even slinkies with a custom gauge 62 on the lowest one and it fits perfctly in my guitar so they should fit in most guitars, but I still want to learn more about what he uses so i I can figure out how he gets that tone

0 #13 String guagesJSIN 2009-01-27 21:00
Alright, I've done some research and found that a 58 is way too big to fit into most post holes. So unless an Ibe has larger tuning peg holes the 58 isnt going to fit. Thing is too...Ernie Ball sells single string packets and I'm thinking the highest guage you could go up to would be a 50 or possibly even a 52 that would fit into the peg holes. But 58's are way too large of a diameter.

0 #12 string guagesJSIN 2009-01-26 20:21
This page says this:

"- Custom Gauge Ernie Ball Strings (11-15-18-28-38-58 and 12-16-20-30-40-64) (looks like he basically plays the 2620 7-string set pictured below but just removes the 48 from the set and uses the 58 instead for a total of 6 strings)"

if you've ever seen a 58...man that is thick!!!! I'm almost thinking he might drop out the 58 and keep the 48...could I be wrong? seems to me the guitar would have a lot of problems with staying in tune with that high of guage on the top string.

0 #11 Tones?JSIN 2009-01-26 20:13
Slipknot (as a band, I guess) has signature tones in the line 6 Spider III. I'm not sure about other line 6 products. But, the spiderIII does have them. They arent "labeled" as Mick Thomson signature...just as slipknot.

+2 #3 Weird effects on the new DVD???Tater 2008-08-31 12:12
There's a part in the DVD you get with All Hope is Gone where mick is playing standing up with the sweet white sig guitar and he's got some weird DJ type effects going on as he's playing. I was thinkin' it might be an overlay of Sid's stuff but through out the DVD you only hear who's being featured in the section, not any overlays of the other parts...so I'm guessin' he's got some sort of weird processor at his feet. If it's the POD i'd be suprised, I had one for 4 years and never found anyhthing like that in it? What the hell is it??? Any ideas?
