Nicko McBrain not only belongs to one of the coolest Heavy Metal bands of all time - he also has some cool drum gear and a neat "fact" that may shock some.

Unlike most heavy metal drummers, Nicko doesn't use two bass drums or a double kick drum pedal, since he considers it to be "too complicated", and "un-drummerish". Instead, he's developed a very fast technique using just one bass drum. The only song Nicko has recorded using two bass drums was "Face in the Sand" from Dance of Death. He subsequently announced that it had been one of the hardest things he had ever had to play and that, for that reason, the number would not be included in the set list of the Dance of Death World Tour.

Paul Barnett  - Nicko Mcbrain   |2010-03-20 09:37:10 Nicko did use the Black Signia at the end of the Real Dead tour. There is a photo of him in the best of the Beast book, also Nicko told me at the first Signia Drum clinic in Oct 1993. He finished with Sonor in 92, the Raising hell video clearly shows his Black Signia the was Aug 93 at the end of the Real live/Dead tour. His Cymbals at this time were Sig not 2002 though. Marc A Grote   |2009-07-01 21:03:47 Nicko now uses Vic Firth sticks. He stopped using Shawstix a year or two ago, but I'm not sure why he did. By the way, Nicko didn't start using Premier until "The X Factor" album, so who ever wrote that he was using them during the "Real Live Tour" which was Bruce's last before he left the band is wrong. I saw that tour and know for a fact that he was still using Sonor at that point and you can see them in the "Raising Hell" concert video which was Bruce's last gig with Maiden until he rejoined the band in 1999.
