Meshuggah - Fredrik Thordendal Guitar Gear Rig and Equipment
Fredrik Thordendal Rig Pictures

A big thanks goes out to Piotr who provided UberProAudio with some great pictures he took of Meshuggah guitar player Fredrik Thordendal's guitar rig. The two pics from Piotr are the ones that show the pedals and the one with the amps in the background (notice the Line 6 heads).

The DAR amp he uses is now called the DAR FBM-100H. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBMxCSgFPd4

And I'm taking a guess here, the amp he used before this one was the Forza Quattro

I've seen Meshuggah in Bolzano and they didn't have teh Iceman, Fredrik use it only in the lessons and in the US Torur with Ministry. For the head, when I've seen Meshuggah Fred and Marten had the Line6 Vetta II, in the winter tour Fred started to use Axe FX. Sometimes like in Moscow Marten used 3 Line6 Podxt pro, and sometimes only one Line6 Vetta II. It depends to teh situation. In all cases for the recording of Obzen for the first time they recorde direct with Vetta II and using also Line6 cabs to obtai a unique sound. With Morgan Agren Fred used also a Line6 Cab live. They are now using 3 Axe-Fx's straight to the PA, one for him and Mårten each for rythms and one for Fredrik's solos and while Fredrik plays solos Mårten takes over his rythm Axe-Fx (so he is using 2 at the same time while F is soloing) to keep the rythm doubled during solos. Super cool eh?

Cheers Antti

Yes, this is true, the 'Shug guitarists have switched to the Axe/Fx units live (and yes, they're direct to the P.A.), time will tell if they decide to use them on the next album. Also, they discontinued the use of the Iceman-8's as they found them to be uncomfortable and unbalanced, so the current alder RG8's are the main workhorses.
