When it comes to gear you’re pretty much a vintage gear head?
Jasin:
Yeah I’ve got a couple of old Marshalls and old Orange amps but out on the road I use pretty much this new amp called a Diezel VH4. I use just that and a Marshall JCM 800 because a lot of the old guitars and old amps don’t really hold out on the road very much. I’ve got to have stuff that is going to work for me every night. I got the Diezel amp about five years when we first got a record deal. I just went to a shop and they hooked me up with one and I’ve never had any problems with it since. It has massive gain and with its four channels, you can pretty much pull out any sound you want. It’s a really reliable amp and pretty much the basis of Shinedown’s sound.
How many guitars do you take out on the road with you?
Jasin:
Because I had a couple accidents with the baritone guitars in the past, I don’t use those any more. And I also tune everything up to standard pitch now. Mainly, I have five Gibson guitars with me out on the road. I’ve been playing Gibsons from the moment I could afford one. I have an ES-335, an ES-336, a couple of Les Paul Standards and a Gibson Flying V. They all go into the Diezel VH4 and the Marshall JCM 800 that run four Diezel cabinets. I throw in a bunch of pedals too, like a couple of delay pedals, a CryBaby wah and a Fulltone Overdrive for the overdrive and that is pretty much it. There ain’t a whole lot of effects going on in my sound. The Gibson guitars stand up pretty much well on the road from the harshness of travelling and what they’re put through each night. I don’t have any problems with them. They’re the best guitars ever made. Period. Anything else is just a fuckin’ rip off.
